VMFD Žalgiris will join the battle with Alytus FC Dainava
On 28th January, Saturday, VMFD Žalgiris will continue the preparation cycle for the new season by a match with Alytus FC Dainava team. It will already be the third friendly Žalgiris match and one of the last opportunities to get season tickets to the team's matches during the upcoming season and join the “Žalgirio šeima” (lit. “Žalgiris family”) for the lowest price - 99 litas (additional fees apply).
VMFD Žalgiris' season tickets will also be available for purchase during Saturday's match at Sportima hall (Ąžuolyno 5). The season ticket prices will go up starting 1st February. The season tickets are distributed by Tiketa.
Last week the Lithuanian vice-champions played two friendly matches and won both. In the beginning of the week the U-21 youth team was beaten with the result of 2:0. At the weekend VMFD Žalgiris defeated guests from Latvia – Daugpilis FC Daugava – at the last minute of the match with the result of 1:0.
The forthcoming Žalgiris competitors, Alytus FC Dainava, took 8th place in 2011 Lithuanian A League championship. This season Alytus players are aiming for the 5th place.
Dainava started the preparation for the new season on 9th January. The Alytus team played their first friendly match of the preparation stage last Sunday. Their competitors were Daugpilis FC Daugava, defeated by VMFD Žalgiris. The Dzukians gained the first goal, but their competitors from Latvia straightened up and gained three goals with no response. Latvians won the match by the result of 1:3.
Dainava are hoping that the majority of last season's main and backup team players and A.Dubickas, L.Baranauskas, A.Miniauskas, training with the team, will stay this year. The former Žalgiris player Antonas Naumovas is also attempting to establish himself in Alytus team. Besides him, Andrejus Sokolovas (FC Vilnius, REO) and Donatas Palauskas (Pakruojis FC Kruoja) are going through the try-outs. In February Alytus are also expected to get some legionaries.
VMFD Žalgiris and Alytus Dainava will play their friendly match on 28th January, Saturday, at 16.30 o'clock at Vilnius Sportima hall.
